As we near the end of yet another year it’s time to start reflecting on all that has happened in the past 12 months. On a worldly level it’s been a year of changes and challenges, often causing bewilderment and confusion as well as fear and insecurity. There have been many ups and downs and stops and starts and no doubt some of you will have noticed this being reflected in your own lives. I know I certainly have! For me it’s been like the goal posts have constantly been shifted and there’s been an awful lot of waiting for things to happen which never did – or at least, not in the way I was expecting!
It is therefore with some relief that I find myself with enough free time to pause and take stock in this period which takes us through Christmas and onwards into the New Year. And I am extremely glad that today is the day of the Winter Solstice as I will welcome tuning into the turning point of the planet’s energies and knowing that as from now, we will begin, little by little, to move towards the return of the Light, the lengthening of the days and into spring.
Spring always heralds new beginnings and that brings forth a re-connection to the life giving energies of Nature and the sun and all the freshness and new growth that the coming season embodies. We live in cycles and spirals and each journey that we take can become the springboard for another. If we remain mindful and present, we can read the signs that can help us along our way. As I said in a previous Newsletter, at times it may seem that we traverse the same well-worn path with little change or progress to show for it, but in truth, we never return to the same place. It’s just that it sometimes seems as though we do. And if life at the moment all seems just too familiar and even somewhat depressing, remember this is a sign from the Universe that we’re being given another opportunity to learn and grow.
The current unseasonal warmth is causing considerable confusion in Nature and therefore triggering a wobble on some level within the depths of many of us. There are flowers and new shoots appearing in my back garden at the moment which normally can’t be seen until March and it’s all very strange! The seasons are out of kilter – and many of us are as well. And it’s not helped by the fact that we’re nearing the end of the time worn tradition of buying presents and spending money (often over-spending) which generally plunges us into a consciousness focussed on material things. This over-emphasis on the material can cause us to perceive and live more on a superficial level than on a spiritual one which again causes an imbalance.
This is the season of Light. It’s the time when there are so many Light Festivals (and Christmas is but one of them) happening in the world, we could be tuning into that energy and allowing it to lift us up spiritually. As someone once said : “We are spiritual beings having a human experience”. But it’s easy to forget that and get caught up in the material side of life .
Wayne Dyer spoke of the difficulties faced when there’s an imbalance between one’s material and spiritual sides. He says: “The most serious consequence is that you see yourself in a false manner. Your true essence is spiritual, rather than physical but you’re unable to recognise this. Your infinite self is never born and never dies. When you tip the balance scales in favour of the material world, you’re identifying with an unstable ally that’s forever changing. Your body, your possessions, your achievements and your finances are all ephemeral.”
He went on to say: “Heaven is a state of mind, not a location, since Spirit is everywhere and in everything. You can begin equalising your material and spiritual life by making a conscious decision to look for the unfolding of Spirit in everything and everyone you encounter.” He continued: “I personally do this by making an effort to look upon my world as if I were observing it through lenses that filter out the form and all of the material aspects of what I’m seeing, and I can only view the spiritual energy that allows what I’m noticing to exist. Try putting on these imaginary magical lenses and see how different everything appears”.
So on this Winter Solstice day, as the sun begins to climb higher into the sky and we move towards the Light once again, why don’t we all try to put on those special glasses Wayne talks to help us view our world from a higher standpoint and gain a better perspective on where we are and what is happening for us? Take this Solstice time to pause and reflect and to just BE!
Wishing you all a Happy Solstice, Christmas and New Year
With love and blessings, Sally
