When you look at the amount of rain we’re currently experiencing in London at the moment and some other parts of the country, you’d be forgiven for thinking that it’s already October! But in fact, we’re only about a month away from Mid-Summer’s Day and the Summer Solstice.
It’s hard to feel those summery feelings of openness and expansiveness when you’re back to wearing warmer clothes and having to put on the central heating isn’t it? But summer really IS just around the corner, and it’s good to remind yourself of that, even if the weather isn’t encouraging you to spend more time outside than you have to!
When I gaze out through the window into my garden, I can see that despite everything looking somewhat wet and bedraggled, nature is doing a lot of flowering and flourishing, just as you would expect her to be doing at this time of year. This is a timely reminder that we, too, are ripening and blossoming in ourselves alongside nature right now. It therefore helps to metaphorically look behind the rain and remember there’ll be some fruits ripening in us from the seeds we planted in ourselves back in spring.
Why not take a peek at how your inner garden is coming along? What seeds are growing strongly? Which ones need some added TLC? Are there any seeds which were planted in spring that are helping you find new views and attitudes? Which ones are bringing about fresh ideas and opportunities? Where are you feeling – or starting to feel – more abundant and aligned with your authentic self and the Universe?
It’s good to make a list of everything positive that you can see growing within you – even those things which may have only grown just a little. By keeping an eye on what’s beginning to flourish, you start to become more aware of what’s going on inside of you so your growth becomes more conscious. But, watch out for any tendency to beat yourself up about things which haven’t sprouted!! Remember, you’re forever “a work in progress” and you can’t do everything at once! Where you fall by the wayside in one aspect of your growth, you may well be establishing something very important in another.
Give yourself appreciation for what you’ve done and put your focus and attention on those things in your life which are good or “coming along”. They don’t have to be big things. You don’t need to have won the lottery! Abundance doesn’t have to be about success, wealth or possessions. It can often come most powerfully from the really simple things in life – most of which cost you absolutely NOTHING to have! That holiday feeling of time off from the grind of work can give you a sense of abundance, as can feeling the warmth and love of being amongst good, dear friends or family. It can also come from receiving an unexpected smile, or from being with your lover, or from stroking a beloved pet, or from lying in bed and hearing the rain pattering against the window pane while you’re tucked up safe and warm in bed.
We also experience abundance when we’re flowing and growing without any sense of struggle or effort to make things happen. We experience it when we have a deep feeling of stillness or when we feel the fullness of an expansive heart. We feel abundance when we’re at peace and wanting nothing.
You live in an abundant universe which is filled with beautiful, benevolent wave fields. Giving yourself the space and time to try tuning into them can generate a sense of calm, peace, wonder and awe. And when you’re in that feeling, you’re 100% present in the moment. You’re not worrying about the past or the future; you’re just being present with what’s happening and where you are right now. You are being not doing. As someone once said: “We’re human beings not human doings”. Being in the now creates a peaceful heart and mind and instantly makes you feel more grounded and centred.
Now I’m sure many of you are already well aware of all this. But it’s always good to give yourself a reminder – especially when cold, wet days may close us down and dampen our enthusiasm for life! Remember: As you think, so you create. The mind is very powerful. If you spend your time focussing on the negative, criticising and judging yourself and others, constantly imagining worse case scenarios or always believing or expecting the worst of people – guess what? You’ll attract even more of those things into your life. “You are the creator of your own experience, whether you know that you are or not. Your life experience is unfolding in precise response to the vibrations which radiate as a result of your thoughts, whether you know that it is or not” (from Ask and It is Given by Esther and Jerry Hicks.)
So while the rain continues to pour and the temperature remains cool, don’t forget that behind all the wet and the cold, summer is getting ready to burst forth! Acknowledge where you’ve grown, relish the flowers and fruits unfolding within you and welcome your personal and uniquely individual summer.
I promise you, it’ll make you feel very abundant!
