Some of you may remember or have heard about the stories of prisoners of war who were incarcerated in Colditz Castle during World War II. The Germans thought Colditz was an escape-proof prison but the British, French and Canadian prisoners held there had other ideas and made numerous bids for freedom.
We all have an inner Colditz. It manifests as that place within ourselves where we feel most trapped and vulnerable and helpless; or where it seems to be taking an interminable length of time to make any progress in moving out of a given situation and we’re getting tired, daunted and maybe a bit desperate. In this dark, constricted inner space, we come face to face with those emotions and feelings which are the most difficult.
When no solutions appear to exist, many people resort to either wishing for some miraculous change in circumstances to take place or simply giving up all ideas of “getting free”. To make matters worse, there’s an endless stream of therapists and life coaches etc., eager to tell us that they’ve got the ULTIMATE answer. Use their method and you’ll have the quick fix you dream about.!! The bad news is that actually, there’s no such thing as a magic bullet – whatever they say!!!!
But the good news is that there ARE certain ways of working with your problems which enable you to let go and move on relatively quickly and painlessly compared to old-style therapeutic techniques. TRY THIS SIMPLE ENERGY MEDICINE TECHNIQUE NEXT TIME YOU’RE FEELING STRESSED OR ANXIOUS:
- Sit or lie down in a place where you can be quiet (go to the bathroom if all else fails!).
- Place the pads of your thumbs on your temples and hold them there firmly, but without any pressure. (The temples are located just past the outer edge of each eyebrow. You can feel a slight indent there and it’s possible to detect a pulse beating in this area).
- As you place your thumbs on your temples, let the index, middle and ring fingers of each hand meet at the centre of your forehead on the bony area above your eyebrows.
- Stay with your thumbs and fingers resting in this position and bring your attention into your breathing. Breathe slowly and deeply for up to three minutes. It’s a physiological impossibility to stay in this position and remain stressed, thus enabling your anxiety/stress levels to subside.
